Petersburg governor draws attention of US ambassador to difficulties in receiving American visas

St Petersburg governor Valentina Matviyenko drew the attention of US ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow to the problems which Russian citizens come across in receiving American visas.

Matviyenko met with Vershbow in Petersburg on Friday. The situation with granting American visas to Russian citizens was one the themes they discussed.

The governor noted that Petersburg citizens complain of non-motivated refusals to grant American visas. Matviyenko said she knew this from her own experience when she had to fly to a United Nations session. She received the visa literally three hours before the flight.

Valentina Matviyenko said that the difficulties with receiving visas would contain the development of business contacts between the two countries.
