Putin sees conditions for implementing military development plans in Russia

The Russian armed forces have strong personnel, technical and intellectual potential, believes Vladimir Putin.

"It is my belief that this is a solid basis for the successful implementation of the most sophisticated plans of military development," the Russian president said on Tuesday at a Defence Ministry conference.

"All our steps in this area are geared to strengthen the country's security, and ensure stable conditions for the life and work of its citizens, for economic growth and the strengthening of Russia's world position," the supreme commander-in-chief emphasised.

He also noted that the conference was to sum up the training results of troops this year and analyse the situation in the armed forces in general.

The head of state recalled that not only members of the higher army command were in the audience. "The very scale and significance of the tasks being accomplished now in military development has also dictated the presence here of members of the federal government, the Federation Council, the Security Council, and the State Duma," Putin said.

Participants included presidential chief of staff Dmitry Medvedev, Security Council Secretary Vladimir Rushailo, Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov, State Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznyov, Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov, chief of the general staff of the armed forces Anatoly Kvashnin, Deputy Prime Minister Boris Alyoshin, Justice Minister Yuri Chaika, and Deputy Defence Minister Lyubov Kudelina.
