Russia, Jordan see no alternative to road map peace plan

Russia and Jordan do not see an alternative to the "road map" peace plan for the Middle East, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Sources in the Jordanian Embassy in Moscow told RIA Novosti that the situation in the Middle East would be one of the main topics of the coming Russia-Jordan negotiations in Moscow. King Abdallah II of Jordan will pay an official visit to Russia on November 18-19.

Alexander Yakovenko said, "Russia and Jordan are convinced that there is no alternative to the 'road map' peace plan." "Only meetings, consolidated efforts of the interested sides and effective assistance from the four international mediators, on the basis of this program, will ensure the stabilization of the situation and the resumption of the negotiation process," said Yakovenko.

Another urgent topic in the dialogue between Russia and Jordan is the situation in Iraq. "Moscow and Amman's positions practically coincide - our countries have consistently called for the earliest restoration of Iraq's sovereignty and the preservation of its territorial integrity," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Russia and Jordan also maintain a dialogue on the fight against international terrorism and the development of bilateral cooperation.
