Russian President to hold joint SC, State Council session

Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a joint session of Russia's Security Council and State Council Presidium, the Kremlin press service reports.

The session will touch upon measures to ensure protection of infrastructure facilities vital for national security and of the country's population from technical and natural threats and terrorist manifestations.

To get familiarized with the state of affairs in the field of population protection from the terrorist danger, man-caused and natural calamities, Russian Security Council Secretary Vladimir Rushailo visited all seven federal districts, and held interdepartmental conferences in each.

Eighty-nine constituent members of the Federation took part in preparing the joint session of the Security Council and the Presidium of the State Council. Rushailo reported on the situation in some federal districts at traditional meetings of the President with the government.

Vladimir Rushailo stressed that during the preparation for the joint session a number of serious shortcomings were revealed in the organization of the work of the federal executive bodies of authority, bodies of authority in the constituent members of the Federation, local self-government bodies and owners of potentially dangerous facilities and organizations which exploit them. All this, Rushailo pointed out, worried the country's leadership and governors, and required the elaboration and implementation of a single strategy of action and a complex of urgent measures.
