State Statistics Committee: Russia is attractive country for immigrants

In accordance with the first stage of the summary of the 2002-population census results Russia is an attractive country for immigrants.

"Starting from 1989 Russia became a country of immigrants following the USA and Germany," Chairman of the Russian State Statistics Committee Vadim Sokolin disclosed to Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

According to him, Russia has surpassed such traditionally immigration-attractive countries as Canada and Great Britain.

The more detailed information on immigrants, arriving to Russia, will be given after the second stage of the summary of the 2002-population census results, Sokolin said.
