No extra security measures for Chechen President's inauguration day

No extra security measures will be taken in Chechnya on October 19, the day of the inauguration of the republic's President Akhmad Kadyrov, Anatoly Popov, Chairman of the committee responsible for organizing the inauguration, told a press conference on Wednesday.

Only the place where the ceremony was to be held would be strictly guarded, he said. The place has not been named yet for security reasons.

Citing the information of federal and republican law enforcement agencies, Popov reported that nothing had so far been heard of militants stepping up their activities. "From the point of view of crime level, the situation remains exactly the same," he said.

The inauguration itself was based on a scenario drawn up "from the experience of neighboring republics," Popov proceeded to say. Asked whether Kadyrov would swear on the Koran when entering upon his duties, he said no. "The president-elect of the Chechen Republic will swear on the Russian Constitution," he said.

He added that guests from the Southern Federal District as well as from every Russian region had been invited to the ceremony.
