Akhmad Kadyrov: Amnesty in Chechnya must be prolonged

Akhmad Kadyrov, Chechnya's newly elected President, thinks it is necessary to prolong the amnesty in the Chechen Republic.

"I had a delegation of Gelayev's people [Gelayev is a gang leader] visiting me last Friday, and they said they want to return to normal life," he reported.

He said the delegation had consisted of members of illegal armed formations, natives of the Chechen villages of Samashki, Bamut and Gekhi-Chu. It had been headed by a field commander, a person close to Gelayev.

Just like many other members of illegal armed units in Chechnya, they want to return to normal life, and they should have all conditions for that, Kadyrov emphasized.
