30% voted in Saint Petersburg Race

Taking part in voting yesterday for governor of Saint Petersburg were 1,068,250 people, or 28.99% of eligible voters in the Northern capital. As reported by Rosbalt, these were the figures provided by Marina Sakharnova, the secretary of the Saint Petersburg Election Commission. More than 99% of the ballots have been checked, she said. Because of the special primary elections in the 41st District, several reporting stations in the Petrogradskaya area had not yet reported their results.

Preliminary figures showed Valentina Matvienko leading the tally (48.61%). In second place was Anna Markova (15.89%). Third in the trio of leaders was Sergei Belyaev. He was supported by 8.1% of those voting. In addition, 10.97% of voters cast their votes against all candidates. There will be a second round of voting on October 5.

Mikhail Amosov got 7.06% of the votes, Konstantin Sukhenko received 5.13%, with the remaining candidates each receiving less than 1%: Aleksei Timofeyev, 0.87%; Viktor Efimov, 0.84%; Vadim Voitanovsky, 0.82%; and Oleg Titov, 0.74%. The final results are to be announced at 17:00 today, although no essential changes are expected.
