Putin: Russia today is not faced with threat of crises and cataclysms

President Vladimir Putin called on the political parties to join more actively the accomplishment of strategic tasks in the country.

Addressing the 3rd congress of the United Russia party on Saturday, the President reminded those present about the strategic tasks, among which are the doubling of GDP, combating poverty and modernization of the armed forces.

"But it is not enough simply to assist in accomplishing these tasks, nor is it enough to meet only daily needs," the Head of the State noted. Political parties should see a few steps ahead. And to do that they must in the first place know the requirements of the society, the needs of the citizens. Only in this case will they be able to win votes, and, what is the most important, to win the voters' confidence." Putin stressed.

The President pointed out also that over the past few years the State Duma has become a really effective and professionally functioning body.

"Our society and the country have received the laws, the absence of which for many years did not allow us to modernize and develop our state, did not allow achieving necessary stability," he stressed. "For the first time in many years we are not faced with a constant threat of a repetition of economic crises and cataclysms," the president observed.

"It is through our joint efforts that we have been able to achieve general political and economic stability," Putin stressed.
