Ford 2003 sales in Russia far outpace last year

The Ford Motor Co. expects to see a year-to-year tripling of its sales in Russia in 2003, with a total number of vehicles sold through its network of official dealers reaching 20,000 units, Ford-SNG-Russia's president, Henrik Nenzen, said today at a Moscow news conference. Ford sales of 7,375 cars in Russia in 2002's first six months is an increase of 2.6 times from the same period of 2002, he said.

Further increases in sales will reflect, the company believes, ongoing development of credit sales. In addition, Ford plans to increase its Russian dealership network to 80 dealerships, up from the present 68.

As reported earlier, Ford sales through its Russian dealerships rose 62% in 2002 from 2001, with sales of 6,669 cars in 2002 as compared with 4,124 cars sold in 2001.
