The work on the memorial in the local cemetery in Saint Petersburg where 32 submariners from the Russian nuclear submarine "Kursk" are buried, is coming to an end. The submarine sunk three years ago in the Barents Sea during the exercises.
The money for the memorial, more than six million roubles, has been allocated by the All-Russia National Military Fund. The memorial consists of 32 tombs made in one style.
At the present time work is being completed on the erection of the central sculpture of the memorial: a bronze stormy petrel on a black granite cube.
The ceremony of unveiling the memorial will take place on the third anniversary of the tragedy - August 12.
The expenditures on maintaining the memorial will be undertaken by the Kursk Submarine Commemoration Fund and the Saint Petersburg Submariners Club.
