Remains of Soviet soldiers who died in Afghan prisons to be returned to Russia

Remains of Soviet soldiers who died captives in Afghanistan will be brought to Moscow from Kabul on Monday.

The remains of private Yuri Alexandrov, native of Tambov, who was reported missing in September 1982, and junior sergeant Sergei Bakanov, native of the Nizhny Novgorod region, reported missing in April 1981, will be buried in the native land, the international committee for the Afghan war veterans' affairs announced.

The remains are escorted by the committee's representatives Vladimir Snegirev, Alexander Dolmatov and Valery Kurilov.

They will hold a briefing upon arrival.
