The United Russia party doesn't want to monopolise power, Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov, who is a member of this pro-presidential party's supreme council, said here today. Luzhkov was addressing a forum of its supporters, which opened here today under the slogan "Together With The President". Those taking part in this forum are elaborating the relevant partisan strategy on the eve of national parliamentary elections, due to take place this November.
We are not leftists; we don't need to monopolise state power. Still we are not rightists, who care about liberalisation alone, without caring for popular interests, either, Luzhkov added. In his words, this party is attaining those specific goals, which are also supported by every Russian citizen, i.e. efforts to enhance the economy and to expand production, as well.
According to Luzhkov, United Russia is trying to find an optimal state-development scenario, what with its supporters deliberately backing President Vladimir Putin. The President is now achieving social goals in the context of society's democratisation, Luzhkov, who is a member of the United Russia leadership, said in conclusion.
