The great rivers in Russia low on water

The main problem of the water resources complex of Russia is the lack of water in the Amur, Angara, Volga and in the rivers in the north-western part of the European part of the Russian Federation, believes the head of the State Water Service of Russia, Nikolai Tarasov.

He spoke about this at the inter-com conference whose participants discussed the results of the spring flood and the problems of water supplies in Russia in the summer period. Taking part in the conference were also representatives of the Emergencies Ministry, the Transport Ministry, the Russian Hydrometeorological Service and of the administrations of the subjects of the Russian Federation.

"The level of water in the Amur is today the lowest in the past ten years," said Tarasov. "The lack of water in the Kuibyshev and Volgograd water reservoirs (Volga) can create problems for the economy in the considerable territory of the country - from Kazan to Astrakhan," underscored the head of the Water Service.

In the opinion of the speakers, not only weather is the cause of the lack of water, but also the wide amplitude of the forecasts given by the Russian Hydrometeorological Service, which makes it impossible to take effective and adequate measures.

Speaking about the spring flood in the territory of Russia, Tarasov pointed out that "thanks to joint actions of the federal and regional bodies of power, it has passed rather quietly, and therefore its consequences for the country's economy have proved to be minimum." In the course of the conference, its participants discussed the causes of the current situation and the measures to be taken to regulate the water level in the rivers and ensure an uninterrupted navigation.
