Transit documents to be issued for Lithuanian rail travel

From July 1, 2003, the mechanism for drawing up and issuing special simplified transit documents for Russian citizens to cross Lithuanian territory by train will come into force.

The Russian Railways Ministry's press service has reported that Russia will therefore be providing passengers with a free extra service, i.e. "visa support." This service means sending a passenger's details to the Lithuanian Embassy in Moscow for the transit permit.

The document will be issued, if the passenger does not have a visa or any other document allowing him or her to travel across Lithuanian territory.

If passengers are refused a permit by the Lithuanian side, than they can receive a full refund of their tickets at any refund ticket office equipped with the "Express" system.
