International bank congress opens in St. Petersburg

The 12th annual international bank congress opened in St. Petersburg on June 4. The Central Bank and the St. Petersburg city government organized the event.

According to Rosbalt, at the congress, which has the theme 'Banking sector and steady economic growth,' participants will discuss a large range of problems related to strengthening the banking sector and providing for steady growth in the Russia economy on the foundation of experience of the world banking community. Directors of elective and legislative power of Russia, Central Bank, commercial banks, audit and consulting firms and exchanges will present at the plenary and sectional sessions. 622 people from 20 countries (9 CIS) and 62 cities.

First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Andrey Kozlov said that the 12th congress will have a different format. 'The Central Bank thinks that it is not a conference of banks that are dependent on its structures, but a discussion of questions between bankers. We came without a prepared decision of the congress as previously. This time the final resolution of the congress will be taken from resolutions of each of six sections which in their turn will be worked out as a result of general discussion,' said Kozlov.
