State Duma prolongs amnesty in Chechnya

The State Duma of the Russian Federation has added one more month to the upcoming amnesty in Chechnya. On Wednesday, the deputies supported the initiative of Pavel Krasheninnikov, the head of the State Duma Legislation Committee, to prolong the amnesty until September 1 /the presidential draft resolution had set August 1 as the deadline/.

In accordance with the resolution declaring an amnesty in the Chechen Republic, which the State Duma passed in the second reading on Wednesday, the amnesty is applied to persons, who committed socially harmful acts in the course of the armed conflict and/or the counter-terrorist operation conducted on the territory of the former Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic between December 12, 1993 and to the moment the amnesty resolution enters into force, persons who refused to join illegal armed units, or persons who voluntarily gave up arms and materiel before 0:00 on September 1, 2002.
