Russian athletes proved their advantage in speed at stage of World Cup rock-climbing competition

The Russian athletes confirmed their advantage in speed at the first stage of the World Cup rock-climbing competition, which was held at the Yekaterinburg indoor stadium (the Ural area) last weekend, with the participation of more than fifty rock-climbers from Russia, France, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland and a number of other countries.

Two women rock-climbers from Yekaterinburg - Anna Saulevich and Zosya Podgorbunskikh - qualified for the final in the most spectacular event of the programme, women's speed rock-climbing. Saulevich gained the upper hand in stiff competition.

Two best athletes of the day - Russian Alexander Peshekhonov and Tomasz Oleksij from Poland - met in men's final. In the decisive heat the Russian fell and ceded the palm to the Pole. Denis Omelchenko from Krasnoyarsk took third place.
