Moscow to be nominated for 2012 Olympic host

The Russian government has decided to nominate Moscow for the host of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The subject was discussed during Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov's Tuesday conference with vice premiers and the key ministers, reported a source in the Government Information Department.

According to the source, the premier instructed the State Sports Committee to elaborate on the possibility of nominating Moscow for the Olympic host.

In the meantime, members of the State Sports Committee and the Russian Olympic Committee have informed the government about the Russian National Olympic Committee's decision to support the initiative of the Moscow Mayor and the Moscow City Duma to nominate Moscow for the host of the 2012 Olympics.

It was mentioned that the authorities of the Russian capital were already contemplating construction of sports facilities and collecting the project documentation necessary to have Moscow registered as a candidate for the Olympic host.
