Industrial output to grow in Russia

In January-April 2003, Russia's industrial output grew by 6.3 percent year-on-year. In April alone, industrial output went up by 7.1 percent as compared with April 2002.

According to Russia's State Statistics Committee, the highest growth was seen in the electric energy sector (7.9 percent), fuel industry (9.9 percent), ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy (9.7 and 8.6 percent), machine-building and metal processing sectors (5.7 percent), and in the medical industry (12.8 percent).

Over this period, car production dropped by 14.2 percent, tractor production by 29.4 percent, and reaper-thresher production by 29 percent. Bread products have decreased by 3.8 percent, vodka and distillery products by 1.1 percent.
