Norilsk Nickel posts rise in net profit

The net profit of the Russian mining and smelting company Norilsk Nickel increased by 2.3 times in the first quarter of 2003 compared to the corresponding period of 2002 and amounted to almost 8.464bn rubles (about $274m), the company's statement says. Sales revenues of Norilsk Nickel in the first three months of 2003 advanced 1.5 times to a little more than 30.012bn rubles (about $972m).
