Nokia to supply equipment to MTS

Finland's Nokia has signed a deal to supply equipment to Russia's largest cell phone operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) for its Multimedia Messaging Solution (MMS) service in St. Petersburg as well as in the Russian regions of Krasnodar and Novosibirsk. The MMS service allows users with MMS-capable phones to exchange multimedia messages containing text, images, audio clips and other multimedia content.

Under the agreement, MTS will use Nokia's multimedia service solution, including the Nokia Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC), the Nokia Multimedia Terminal Gateway and the Nokia Profile Server.

MTS is the largest mobile operator in Russia as well as in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of subscribers. Together with its subsidiaries, the company provides services to over 9.9 million people, the Russia Journal reported.
