Kursk's Nuclear Fuel Leaves Kola Peninsula

Experts from the Murmansk Shipping Company and Atomflot yesterday transferred the last container of nuclear fuel from the Kursk submarine from its temporary storage site onboard the Lotta maintenance vessel to a special train. The train will shortly be dispatched to the Chelyabinsk Region, where the fuel will be processed by the Mayak plant.

Work to deal with the Kursk's nuclear fuel has been conducted according to normal procedures and has been subjected to several checks on radiation safety by inspection agencies from various ministries. None of the checks found any violations of regulations.
