AvtoVAZ to Assemble Cars in Uruguay
The Russian automaker AvtoVAZ shipped 96 car kits to the Uruguayan car assembly company Oferol located in Montevideo, the AvtoVAZ press center reported. Oferol, supported by another Uruguayan company Rusia Automotriz S.A., has now all the necessary facilities to assemble AvtoVAZ Niva offroad cars.
The car production will start in July 2003. The total AvtoVAZ export of car kits to Uruguay will amount to 1,920 this year. The cars assembled in Uruguay are intended for sale in Uruguay, Chili, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
In 2003, AvtoVAZ plans to produce about 690,000 cars.
