Russian Parliament Speaker and President of Kazakhstan Discuss Common Economic Space

On Tuesday, Speaker of the Federation Council /the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament/ Sergei Mironov and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev met in Astana to discuss creation of a common economic space of Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Belarus. The parties "devoted much time to the future project to create a common economic spapce initiated by the four presidents," Mironov said at a press conference following his meeting with Nazarbayev.

According to Mironov, Kazakhstan's President believes it necessary to set up a supranational body of a certain level in the form of an interstate committee on economy and tariffs.

On the post-Soviet territory Russia and Kazakhstan "are conducting political and economic reforms most synchronously", Mironov also pointed out. "Many reforms Russia is just starting have already been carried out in Kazakhstan and we are very interested in this experience," the Russian Speaker stated.
