Duma deputies prefer government's way of reforming energy industry

The Duma part of the conciliation commission for reforming the electric energy industry chose the governmental packet of bills as a basis for its activities. This decision was made at today's enlarged meeting of the trilateral commission for preparing bills on reforming RAO UES for the first reading in parliament. According to Deputy Economy Minister of Russia Andrey Sharonov, deputies suggested 251 amendments to the governmental packet of bills. Beginning July 18, 2002, the governmental part of the trilateral conciliation commission is going to meet with authors of all the amendments for working out a common version of the bills.

In his turn, Duma cochairman of the conciliation commission Vladimir Pekhtin reported that work on the bills "is on its way". By the end of the summer, the commission is to come to an agreement regarding these documents, he said. Next time, the Duma part of the commission will meet on July 29, 2002. According to cochairman of the commission Valery Goreglyad, who is a representative of the Federation Council, the upper house will make its decision on the bills on July 19, 2002.

It is worth mentioning, that the government introduced seven bills on reforming the electric energy industry to the State Duma. Additionally, there is a number of bills developed by Duma deputies.
