Ballard Appoints Campbell As New President/COO

Ballard Power Systems, the Canadian maker of fuel cells for cars, named Dennis Campbell as its president and chief operating officer as part of a plan for him to become the new chief executive officer.

The appointment of Campbell, 54, is effective Monday. He has been president and chief executive officer at New Jersey based Home Care Industries for two and a half years. Closely held Home Care makes vacuum cleaner bags and filtration products.

“It's an exciting opportunity. This is a company that has a chance to change everything,” said Campbell in a telephone interview. “We have an opportunity to obsolete the internal combustion engine.”

Fuel cells are electrochemical devices that convert a fuel's energy directly to electrical energy without combustion, according to the National Fuel Cell Research Center Web site.
