Tropical typhoon Heilong reaches the South Kurils

The tropical typhoon Heilong on Wednesday reached the South Kuril Islands and is moving swiftly to the north. A storm warning has been announced on the islands.

As has been reported by the Sakhalin territorial Hydro-Meteorological Centre, in the afternoon on Wednesday the typhoon will cover all the Kuril Islands. Heavy showers will be accompanied by wind gusts of up to 30 metres a second.

According to the weather forecasters, the left wing of the typhoon will slightly touch the Sakhalin Island and the shores of the Maritime and the Khabarovsk Territories where the wind will increase and rapid rains are expected. On the night of July 19th the Heilong will reach Kamchatka.

The typhoon Heilong originated in the tropical latitudes of the Pacific Ocean. It has already passed the territory of Philippines and Japan.

The Heilong brings with itself warm air to the Pacific shore of Russia. As a result, the temperature on the Kurils, Sakhalin and Kamchatka will rise to 25-27 degrees Celsius.

At the same time, the liquidation of the grave consequences of the previous Chataan typhoon is still underway on Sakhalin. The railway, motor roads and electric transmission lines are being repaired. Many sections of the motor roads have already been cleaned.
