Russian prime minister gives instructions on measures aimed at overcoming the consequences of floods in the south of Russia

Russia's prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov signed instructions on additional measures to be taken to eliminate the consequences of floods in the Southern federal district.

As the government information department informed RIA Novosti, the government deems it expedient to render assistance to victims of the floods in rebuilding their damaged housing. This assistance will be given from federal budget funds in the amount of up to 30,000 roubles (1,000 dollars) per family, depending on the degree of damage.

The ministries of natural resources, agriculture and public health must submit their proposals to the government on financing top-priority repair and restoration operations at their facilities damaged by the floods. What is meant is the repair of hydrotechnical and water supply facilities, among other things.

In drafting their federal targeted investment programme for 2003, the economic development and trade ministry and the finance ministry have been instructed to provide for funding repair operations at federally-owned facilities. According to the RIA Novosti's information, this programme will be examined at a government session on July 26.
