Passenger service to open between Kaliningrad and Russian ports on Baltic

The Far East shipping company is ready to organise a regular passenger service between Kaliningrad (a Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea) and Russian ports on the Baltic, Yuri Shlykov, deputy director-general of the company, told a RIA Novosti correspondent on Friday.

He pointed out that the St Petersburg maritime administration had already sent a letter to the Russian Transport Ministry and the Far East shipping company, confirming its position on the possible opening of a ferry service between the Kaliningrad and Leningrad regions.

According to Shlykov, the Far East company sent an affirmative reply to the suggestion of its colleagues from St Petersburg.

To date the company has four large-tonnage ships for 400 passengers and 150 vehicles and heavy-duty equipment. The Rus, Kapitan Sholokhov, Antonina Nezhdanova and Olga Sadovskaya carry passengers and cars on the Vladivostok-Japan line.
