Demonstration range practice at Russian Expo Arms-2002 comply with regulations

Demonstration range practice at the Russian Expo Arms-2002 exhibition in Nizhny Tagil /the Urals/, that accidentally left a local resident wounded, was conducted in a strict compliance with all regulations. The conclusion was drawn by a special commission investigating the incident.

A 48-year-old driver of the local carriage building plant, Yevgeny Boyarsky, was wounded on Tuesday during the demonstration range practice of a "Smerch" multiple-launch rocket system /MLRS/ at the exhibition site. He was wounded by rocket fragmentation, though being in the safe zone. With normal 150 meters from the firing position, the safe zone borders were drawn at 250 meters. Yet the fragment suddenly ricocheted off the ground and flew 323 metres from the firing position.
