Russia's President informed of federation council's approval of farmland Turnover law

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been informed that the Federation Council adopted the law "On farmland Turnover" at a meeting on Wednesday, a presidential representative in the upper house of the Russian Parliament Vyacheslav Khizhnyakov told RIA Novosti.

First of all, it is the Russian population that will benefit from the law, said speaker of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov in his comments on the law.

"The state will also find it advantageous, because before the law had been approved the weeds were the only owners of land," Mironov said. The senators' decision on the law was to a great extent accelerated by the provision that forbade selling farmland to foreigners.

This law will attract investments to the Russian agricultural sector in the future, said the Chairman of the Federation Council's Agrarian Committee Ivan Starikov to RIA Novosti.
