Vladimir Putin: Russian government "has regular contacts with German opposition"

The Russian government has regular contacts with the German opposition, said Russia's president Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on Wednesday during his meeting with Bavaria's Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber - the main rival of the current Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder at the coming election scheduled for September 2002.

According to the Russian head's recent telephone conversation with Gerhard Schroeder, the Chancellor supports this approach, Vladimir Putin pointed.

President Putin said he was happy that "the German society took Russia as a serious partner despite its internal political situation." The president also said that the Russian side in its turn showed the same attitude towards Germany.
