Russia's Prime Minister, Kaliningrad Region's Governor Discuss Baltiisk-St. Petersburg Ferry Line

Yesterday, Mikhail Kasyanov, Russia's Prime Minister, and Vladimir Yegorov, the Governor of the Kaliningrad Region, met in Moscow to discuss the region's social and economic development.

According to the press service of the administration of the Kaliningrad Region, discussed among other things was the establishing of a ferry connection between the town of Baltiisk and St. Petersburg and the readjustment for the purpose of the so-called Basin 3 now being handed by the Baltic Fleet of Russia's navy over to civilian authorities.

President Putin ordered the new ferry line opened in January 2003. In the meantime, for the to be readjusted, about 10 sunken vessels must be raised and the bottom dredged to a greater depth. The administration of the Kaliningrad seaport says this should cost about USD 10 million.

Before meeting with Prime Minister Kasyanov, Kaliningrad's Governor attended a session of Russia's Security Council, the agenda being about 'The Economic Basis of the National Security of the Russian Federation'.
