Swedish Swedwood Furniture Makers to Open Sawmill in Sverdlovsk Region

According to what Johan Nilson who represents Swedish Swedwood, one of the world's leading furniture makers, said during his meeting with Yury Osintsev, the Minister of International Connections of the Sverdlovsk Region, the company considers opening a sawmill there. Swedwood believes the Urals' pine is among the highest quality kinds of wood. The meeting parties discussed business cooperation.

Mr. Osintsev said that bringing investments into the wood-processing industry of the region was among the Governor's and administration's priorities, the potential of this branch of economy still to be fully realised. The minister said that while earlier the region had stored annually about 25 million cubic metres of wood, now the figure had dropped to 6.5 million cubic metres, although there were plans to bring it up to18 million soon. German, Italian, Dutch and Chinese companies have also shown their interest.

Besides Sweden, Swedwood has branches in Poland, Hungary, Latvia, and Ukraine. A year ago, the company came to Russia. The parties agreed to have more meetings to discuss Swedwood's cooperation with the Sverdlovsk Region during the Days of Sweden to be held in the Urals in October this year.
