Toyota sells 2,884 cars in first half of 2002 in Russia

The number of Toyota and Lexus cars sold through the official dealer network was 2,884 cars in the first half of 2002 in Russia (an increase of 70 percent as compared to the figure reported in the first half of last year), of which 2,805 cars were Toyota models and 79 - Lexus models. 2,011 cars were sold in the second quarter of 2002 after the national marketing and sales campaign of Toyota Motor, the Russian office of the company reported. The leaders of terms of the number of units sold were Corolla (793 cars), Camry (665 cars) and Avensis (525 cars). In 2002 Toyota is planning to sell around 7,000 cars in Russia, which makes up a market share of 8 percent, while the forecasted market volume in 2002 is 90,000 cars in Russia. Among the company's strategic plans is winning a 10 percent share of the Russian foreign car market.
