Flood in Southern Russia claims 94 lives

According to the latest information, floods in south Russia have claimed altogether 94 lives. RIA Novosti learned from the press-service of the Emergencies Ministry on Wednesday that in Stavropol Territory the flood has claimed 49 people, in Krasnodar Territory -- 32, in Karachayevo-Cherkessia - 6, in Northern Osetia - 6 and in Kabardino-Balkaria - 1.

About 100,000 people were evacuated from the flooded settlements. About 39,000 of them have returned to the places of their permanent residence. It has been established that almost 334,000 people have suffered losses from the floods.

According to specified information, the material damage done by the natural calamity to the region's residents and economy is estimated at 13.7 billion roubles ($1=over 30 roubles).

Altogether 343 settlements have suffered from the flooding, with 7,519 dwellings destroyed and 45,733 damaged. The flood has damaged 143 km of gas pipelines, 498 bridges, 1,927 km of motor roads, 5.9 km of railways, 404 km of electric transmission lines, 581 km of water pipelines and 149 water intakes.

Restored by Wednesday morning were 374 km of electric transmission lines, 981 km of motor roads, 332 km of water lines, 79 km of gas pipelines, 5 km of railways, 255 bridges and 92 water intakes.
