Situation in Russia's flooded areas under control

The main task facing doctors in the flooded areas of the Stavropol territory, a southern region in the European part of Russia, is to prevent an outbreak of infectious diseases, announced Nikolai Shibkov, the Health Minister of the Stavropol territory, at a Monday press conference.

According to Shibkov, the disabled water-supply and sewage systems and flooded burial sites for diseased cattle have prompted the territory's 116 integrated teams to work round the clock.

Locals are supplied with a free medical drug, Biobacton, which prevents intestinal infections. All in all, the territory has purchased 30,000 vaccines of Biobacton and Bacteriophage, and some 22,000 more on July 2nd. Apart from that, doctors have 11,000 vaccines against hepatitis A. 6,000 of the territory's inhabitants have already been vaccinated.

In all, 4,000 people have sought medical help since the flood.
