Portuguese version of PRAVDA.Ru causes great interest

The forthcoming Portuguese version of PRAVDA.Ru has caused great interest both in Portugal and in Brazil. After the new version was announced in an article by the PRAVDA.Ru correspondent in Lisbon, (published in PRAVDA.Ru Top Stories on 21.06.2002) two quality Portuguese newspapers, the dailies Diario de Noticias and Jornal de Noticias printed extracts and the Portuguese State TV company, RTP, called Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey to be interviewed.

The televised interview gave the Lisbon correspondent the opportunity to explain details of his article, in which he attacked the Portuguese Communist Party for not providing a discourse in line with the times and presenting this as the main reason why the party is losing votes, fast. Also, and more importantly, he had the occasion to describe the new version PRAVDA.Ru to the future readership.

Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey began with a greeting to Portugal, the Portuguese people and a special mention of solidarity to RTP, a company which is passing through a particularly difficult moment, many employees possibly facing redundancy and a major organizational shake-up promised by the new right-wing PSD-PP government, from Chief Editor Vadim Gorshenin, Vice-Chief Editor and Chief Editor of the English Version, Inna Novikova and himself, as Chief Editor of the Portuguese Version.

He went on to describe PRAVDA.Ru’s philosophy of providing a bridge of friendship, through discussion, between the Russian Federation and the rest of the world and how the Portuguese version of PRAVDA.Ru will link together the Portuguese-speaking world (Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe Islands, Timor Loro Sae and including Goa, Damao and Diu, territories previously under Portuguese administration in India) opening channels of dialogue with the Russian Federation.

These channels, explained Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey, will be not only political but also entrepreneurial and cultural, providing information about both the Russian and the Portuguese worlds for each other.

Meanwhile, great interest in the project has been expressed by many personalities and journalists in Brazil, a number of whom have hastened to ask if they may collaborate in the project, which is planned to be on-line this summer.
