Death Toll in Floods in Southern Russia Reaches 77

Death toll in floods in Southern Russia has reached 77. According to the statement released today by the press service of Russia's Ministry of Emergencies, the situation is becoming more stable, yet still extremely aggravated in some areas. By this time, about 31,000 of nearly 86,000 evacuees have been able to go back home.

Estimated damage to property in 9 regions of Russia comes to over USD 500 million. Nearly 301,000 people have suffered material loss. Destroyed have been 5,500 houses and 37,200 houses damaged.

Severe rains accompanied by hail and strong winds occurred in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria during the night on June 26. Besides the district that had suffered previously 4 more districts were affected by the storm. Here, over 1,000 houses and 100 production facilities were damaged. The total number of villages and towns in the republic affected by the storm has reached 246.
