Russian deputy on importance of Anti-Extremist Law

Pavel Krasheninnikov, the Chairman of the Legislative Committee of Russia's State Duma, has welcomed the adoption by the lower house of the country's parliament of a law against extremist activity. According to the deputy, the law, which was adopted earlier in the day, will clarify the vague notion of "extremism" and thereby make the struggle against this phenomenon more successful.

So far, Russia could only take legal actions against persons that bred national, religious or social discord. The new law makes it possible to sue organizations as well.

Now that the law is adopted, "Russia has well-organized anti-extremist legislation just like other civilized countries," stressed Krasheninnikov.
