Russian Interior Ministry believes draft Law on Extremism should be revised

The Russian Interior Ministry believes that "the draft Law on Combating Extremist Activity should be radically revised. This opinion was expressed by deputy chief of the organisation-scientific department of the Russian Interior Ministry Larisa Maslennikova during the discussion of this draft law.

She called the draft law "abstract and generalised" and said that it "does not define the object and subject of the infringements of the law." This means that "those who will apply this law will not be able to work with it, because the juridical basis in it is not thought out." The draft law should be revised, and it was not necessary to adopt it in a haste, said Larisa Maslennikova.

She believes that under this law it would be difficult to prove that a person or an organisation has violated it.

The spokesman for the Interior Ministry thinks that the authorities are behind the development of public relations. In her opinion, it was necessary not to adopt a new law but to make amendments to the legislation in force.
