Gazprom's net profit rockets 60%

The net profit of Russia's gas monopolist Gazprom surged 60 percent in 2001 versus 2000 and reached 72bn rubles ($2.5bn), the head of the corporate financial department reported at an investment conference organized by the Renaissance Capital investment company. He linked this significant rise in the net profit to favorable prices on the European market and an improved situation with the paying discipline in Russia.
