Russian troops help deal with flooding in Chechnya

Servicemen from the United Groups of Forces (OGV) in Chechnya are helping local authorities deal with the widespread flooding that has hit the republic.

The OGV press service told RIA Novosti on Tuesday that transport division had organised an "autobridge" to guarantee deliveries of various humanitarian and other loads.

OGV servicemen have also re-opened a road to the Vedensk region which was destroyed by the floods. Four mudslides have been cleared, while 26km of road have been replaced. Two bridges and a low-pressure gas pipeline have also been repaired.

More than 13,000 servicemen took part in the work in the last 24 hours. The OGV press service also pointed out that 900 vehicles and 24 military helicopters were also involved in the operation.
