59 people die in floods in Southern Russia

As at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, 59 people died in the floods that have engulfed Southern Russia, reports the press-service of Russia's Ministry for Emergency Situations.

In Stavropol Territory the flood has taken the toll of 389 people, in Karachayevo-Cherkessia of 10, in Krasnodar Territory - 8, and in Kabardino-Balkaria -1 .

The damage done by the natural calamity is currently being specified.

According to specified data, altogether 236 settlements in 60 districts have been flooded, with 199,000 people having suffered losses to one degree or another, and almost 86,000 have been evacuated. More than 44,000 houses have been flooded, of which 3,157 were destroyed and 3,917 damaged.

The flood has damaged 118 km gas pipelines, 233 bridges (186 automobile, 4 railway, and 43 pedestrian ones), 945.5 km of highways, 519 electric transmission lines, 39 km of water pipelines, 6 km of railway beds and 7 water intakes.

Water supplies have been interrupted in 110 settlements.
