The fireworks will soon start in Abkhazia. Gelayev’s guerrillas have Stingers!

Today news agencies received information that three militants from Chechen field commander Ruslan Gelayev’s group have been killed in Chechnya.

The regional operative headquarters inform that, at about 12:00 pm on Wednesday, police officers and servicemen of the Achkhoy–Martan military commandant’s office tracked down a group of three armed men.

The operative group attempted to detain the militants, but the men opened fire. The militants were killed by gunfire opened by the operative group in response, a Kalashnikov gun and a cartridge rounds unit were withdrawn. Later, it became clear that the men belonged to Ruslan Gelayev’s group. Nothing has been heard about Gelayev and his group for a long period already in Chechnya. Servicemen suppose that the Chechen commander has settled down in the Pankissi Gorge in Georgia. The Georgian leadership seems to be sheltering him in the hope of using Gelayev’s people, 200–300 in number, in operations in Abkhazia. Interfax reports today that Gelayev’s militants settled in the Pankissi Gorge received several portable Stinger anti-aircraft units this week. It is supposed that the extremists also have new communication devices, foodstuffs, and uniforms. The information obtained reveals that Gelayev’s militants plan to enter not only Chechnya and Ingushetia, but Abkhazia as well. Very likely, Abkhazia will soon become hot again.
