Central Bank reports investment figures of Russian commercial banks

The total volume of Russian banks' investments in liabilities was 383.863bn rubles ($12.26bn) as of April 1, 2002, the public relations department of the Russian Central Bank reported. Government bonds comprised 90.8 percent of this sum. Some 93.5 percent of these investments were made by credit organizations of the Central Federal District.

Russian banks' investments in shares were 34.803bn rubles ($1.11bn) on April 1, 2002 (89.8 percent of these investments were made by credit organizations of the Central Federal District). About 15.96bn rubles ($509m) were invested in banks' branches and dependent companies including 15.138bn ($483m) of the Central Federal District banks. Other investments were 2.735bn rubles (about $87m), including 1.958bn rubles (about $62.5m) of credit organizations of the Central Federal District.
