Russian Premier: Administrative barriers in the economy ought to be removed

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov considers it necessary, within the shortest time, to improve conditions for the development of business in the country and, above all, to remove administrative barriers.

The head of government stressed to journalists that that factor would substantially speed up the rates of the Russian economy's development.

The Premier recalled that as recently as only a few years ago the country faced a number of key problems, the most important of which was the high tax burden, an unclear tax system, an under-developed banking sector and excessive administrative barriers. Kasyanov said he believes that movement is visible in all directions. According to Kasyanov's assessment, in the tax sphere the results are "much more effective," for that sphere is directly subordinated to the government. The resolution of other problems proceeds a bit more complicated, noted the premier.

At the same time, removal of administrative barriers in the way to the development of entrepreneurship remains a priority for the cabinet of ministers. What deserves special attention in that context, believes Kasyanov, are the regions, for it is precisely there that obstacles appear in the way of business. The elimination of these restrictions will be a strong stimulus for the development of competition, said Kasyanov with confidence.
