World Cup still echoes for Russian football players

As it became known today, there will be more security guards provided for the apartments of the Russian football players who participated in the World Cup in Japan and Korea. This was announced by news agencies with reference to a source in law-enforcement bodies

Pursuant to this information, there has been a telegram sent to the police station of the area in which one of the football players lives. The telegram was signed on behalf of one of the police chiefs of the Moscow department of home affairs. It was said that football players were in need of extra security. The issue is the fact that the Moscow Home Affairs Department allegedly possessed information about possible unlawful demonstrations on the part of Russian football fans against the members of the Russian national football team.

We would like to point out in this respect that Russian media outlets are currently paying a lot of their attention to two Russian World Cup participants: young talented forward Dmitry Sytchev and experienced goalkeeper Stanislav Cherchesov. There is some positive news about Dmitry and some negative news about Stanislav.

Well, several leading Italian clubs - Inter, Parma and Milan - showed their interest in Dmitry Sytchev. Milan is reportedly offering nine million dollars for the forward, looking for a worthy partner to Andrey Shevchenko (Milan’s Ukrainian forward). The press-service of the Russian club Spartak, to which Sytchev belongs, claimed that if they sell Sytchev, then he will cost as much as the forward of Madrid’s Real does.

As far as the veteran of the Russian team, Stanislav Cherchesov, is concerned, it has been reported that his football club, Tirol, (Austria) went bankrupt. The Austrian court ruled to withdraw the professional licence from the club for its debts and the club lost its right to participate in another major league championship of the country. The team has been dissolved, and the football players were told to find other jobs. Therefore, what will happen to Cherchesov now? Where will he go?

Russian media also informed yesterday that former coach of the Russian squad, the president of the Moscow Spartak, Oleg Romantsev, had already lost one of his positions. Romantsev is no longer the president of the club. Andrey Chervichenko is going to replace him. He has been acting president of Spartak lately.

However, the club itself has not confirmed this information. The press-service of the club said that Romantsev “was currently on vacation,” recovering after the World Cup games. President of the Russian football association Vyacheslav Koloskov thinks that Oleg Romantsev could remain at his position of the coach of the Russian national team.
