Earthquake in Chile felt in Buenos Aires

A 6 degrees Richter scale earthquake took place this Tuesday in the Central zone of Chile and was felt in the Western cities of Argentina and in its Capital, Buenos Aires. As a result of the seismic movements, more than fifteen skyscrapers were temporarily evacuated in Buenos Aires downtown.

“Suddenly, the ceiling started to move and the glasses to vibrate. However, no sounds could heard. Firstly I thought it was a bomb and we were going to die, then I realised it was nothing serious”, Diego an employee of a Reinsurance company explained. By 12 pm everybody returned to their offices as it was already clear what had happened.

In Mendoza, Cordoba, San Juan and La Rioja, provincial cities of Argentina, small material damages were reported, but no wounded people. This kind of seismic phenomenon is rather unusual in Buenos Aires, where its flat topography makes earthquakes almost impossible to happen.
